Troop 407 Favorite Recipes
Russian Tea
The following recipe for Russian Tea, a soothing hot beverage, was developed by Paul Kemp. Mr. Kemp was a beloved member of Troop 407. He served as a leader for many years. Known far and wide for his excellent cooking (both indoor and outdoor) and his ability to patiently teach cooking skills to youth, he was known by many scouts and scouters as "The Tenderfoot Gourmet". Mr. Kemp taught culinary arts at Oakland Technical Center. His son, Brian, attained the rank of Eagle while in the Troop. Mr. Kemp passed away in 2005, and has since been honored with a James West Fellowship in his name, through the financial contributions of Troop 407 members.
For the mix:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup Tang
- 1/2 cup unsweetened instant tea
- Powdered lemonade mix for 2 gallons (4 packets of Kool-Aid Lemonade would work fine. Don't use pre-sweetened lemonade mix! -fjm)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cloves
Mix all ingredients together in a container. Use 1-2 tablespoons of mix in a cup of hot water.
